Dan Deacon bridges an odd gap between serious “art” and shitposting, and some of my favorite work of his leans hard that gap between pretentious avant garde music and just having fun and making crazy sounds. This is exemplified on this short EP of mashups that he put out in 2012. He uses a vintage 2012 selection of tracks, (including Gangnam Style) and some adult language. It’s like if you took the pop culture density of a Girl Talk album, the sheer audacity of one of Neil Cicierega’s Mouth Sounds mashup albums, and Steve Reich in Come Out or It’s Gonna Rain mode. Heady, hypnotic, and highly recommended.
