here's some good music from this week
Once again, we’ve somehow made it through another week
I listened to a lot of throwback stuff this week:

Transformer AND a synthesizer
Television - Marquee Moon
I think I could listen to the title track over and over again. For a long time, I couldn’t get into this, but something clicked about it for me this week. It’s wild to look at the 1977 in Music wikipedia article and try to place this in the midst of the rise of the Sex Pistols, Zep at the height of their powers, Donna Summer’s I Feel Love, and the death of Elvis.
This is one of those that actually requires stereo, each of the guitarists on this album was hard-panned to the left or right channel, so listening to it on one headphone misses the full effect.

the coolest
Flipper’s Guitar - Three Cheers for Our Side
A prototypical Shibuya-kei album that’s a perfect sunny spring day listen. One of the guys from Flipper’s Guitar would go on to record as Cornelius!

I have a CD copy of this but I couldn’t find it
Spacemonkeyz vs. Gorillaz - Laika Come Home
Did you know that there was a full album dub remix for the first Gorillaz album? And that it’s pretty good? It’s genuinely weird that this exists. And honestly, it redeems some of the more skippable album tracks.

Deltron 3030 - The Instrumentals
Deltron 3030 is a legendary album for me. Would the Gorillaz exist without this album? I love Dan the Automator’s production especially, which this instrumental release puts on display.
Also, if you love Deltron and cartoons, check out the Deltron episode of Craig of the Creek (“The Kid from 3030”)
How about some other good stuff?
This recording is nearly 100 years old and it is so perfectly laid back. I cannot get enough of this. I might just switch from chill lofi beats to chill lofi 1920’s New Orleans jazz.
I’m a long long time fan of the synth pop that Ronnie Martin has been making for the last 30 years under various names (including Joy Electric). I’m stoked about his new one, out next Friday, and this single is a fantastic preview.
You watching Coachella this weekend? I’ll be tuning in for Weezer and then Yo Gabba Gabba on Saturday afternoon, and maybe Polo & Pan on Sunday night.
