Prestige Format Picks 📼 11 November 2025

two great forward-looking eps, and two wonderfully nostalgic tapes

I got a new tape deck from my local free group

Needed a bit of cleaning but now it sounds fantastic. I’ve been listening to tapes pretty constantly since.

I love KKB’s whole thing, the combination of PC Music beats and spoken/sung lyrics really works well. Their music always has a good dose of humor too, which elevates it. This short album is a combination of two earlier experimental singles, and showcases more complex songwriting from the group. The musical textures are influenced by 90s rave music; this is a good one to play loud!

Fine China has always worn their 80s influences on their sleeves, but this album draws from a broader pool than their previous ones. There are tender ballads, guitar solos, and some of the best songs Fine China have ever written. Miles Out and The Hymnal 1982, closing out side A, really crush it for me, but the whole thing is great.

A spacy collection of vintage electronic sounds that tend towards ambient but isn’t entirely devoid of good beats. Maybe it’s my love of late 90s synth pop or my devotion to electronic noise, but this album is like a warm blanket to me, comforting and relaxing. Listening to it on tape adds that little extra bit of analog warmth to this and I just can’t get enough.

I am ride-or-die for Helado Negro’s music. Every single album, no matter how varied or how his music changes, connects with something deep inside of me. More electronic and a bit darker than recent efforts, this short collection reckons a bit with our modern moment.
