Prestige Format Picks 🍜 15 August 2025
two perfect soundtracks, an Italo-disco chamber orchestra, and more recs from Teen Daze
Summer is officially over, for us
my kids started school this week, and I guess it’s soundtrack week
This is a nice little throwback. It was a splashy soundtrack to an iPhone game that blew up (and has been remade for so many modern platforms including Nintendo Switch). But Jim Guthrie’s soundtrack is something special. It captures the mood of Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, but with a much more lush and vast sonic palette. There are some true bangers here. |
![]() | Kpop Demon Hunters SoundtrackIf you haven’t yet watched this movie, you definitely should. The animation’s great, the characters are funny and the story is heartfelt. And the music rules. I have young daughters, so this is the mandatory soundtrack to our drives, but I’m still enjoying these tracks. Golden is absolutely the Let It Go of 2025. |
![]() | The Best of Rondò Veneziano, Vol. 1An 80s Italo-disco chamber orchestra? And their music rules? This is the most Daft Punk thing I’ve heard in a long time. It definitely veers into cheesy territory but I’ve been obsessed since I saw the above early-80s animated clip. This just rules. |
I mentioned this last week but I’ve been listening to this most of the week. My favorite programs so far are Angel Stream-B and Dreamt Water-B and I just cannot get enough of this. This is somehow the thing that’s fully triggered 90s nostalgia in me and I’m going to try to put together my own programs like this. |
This is a Teen Daze TikTok stan newsletter now
@teendazemusic Is this the most influential mix of the 2010s? Go show some love to CFCF, and download his whole discography on his Bandcamp. What are som... See more
I’m a big fan of CFCF’s music, but some of my favorite stuff he’s done has been his Night Bus mixes. The best one, mentioned above, is Night Bus II and I recommend you listen to it immediately:
Amazingly, the mp3 is still available on the Gorilla vs Bear music blog from back in the day. And the edits are on CFCF’s bandcamp for free/pwyw.
Have a great weekend
