Prestige Format Picks (= ФェФ=) 21 March 2025

Here’s what’s been in my ears this week:

that’s Concept Art Sunstreaker there, behind the tape

A meditative, immersive collaboration between a field recorder and a composer.

not a lot of pixels were available

Vintage 1997 mixed Ninja Tune comp of mostly instrumental hip hop/trip hop/lofi beats. Disc one (up to track 20) is mixed by Coldcut/DJ Food (same guys in this case) and the rest of the tracks are mixed by lofi legend DJ Krush. This playlist is missing the last 3 tracks (based on Discogs), but it’s the most comprehensive I’ve come across.

name! that! gear!

The Gleaming Corridor is the synth + field recording work of cartoonist/illustrator Ben Sears, and I love how easily my brain connects with his sounds. This album is a mix of really good lock-in grooves and calming soundscapes and I listen to it pretty frequently.

love that orange tape

A recent collection of the anticon producer’s transcendent beats, with plenty of great noise and tape hiss to keep things feeling handmade

Radiohead - Kid A and Amnesiac

I’m not linking these, you can find them on your streaming service of choice or maybe in a box of CDs in your garage. My 13 year old has been getting into Radiohead and so I tried these on him this week. He wasn’t ready. But the cat and I really enjoyed revisiting them. I’d always been a Kid A partizan, but I think Amnesiac edges it out these days.

Thanks for reading!
