Emily A Sprague - Water Memory/Mount Vision

A poetic, pastoral slab of two ambient albums, back to back. Forget your Spotify relax playlists and put this on instead.

gross, this CD case is so grungy

Some classic clicks and cuts and beeps and whooshes from the masters of the genre. Great music to slap on and work or just vibe. I have the 2-disc CD version, which also includes EPs Anvil Vapre and Garbage

it’s lo-res as an aesthetic

I can’t believe this album is 20 years old, wait, yes I can. It’s weirdly dated but still feels vital. I haven’t played it for my kids but I feel medium-confident they’re going to say it’s cringe and I don’t know if they would be wrong. The Diplo-led Piracy Funds Terrorism mixtape is mixed up in my mind with MIA’s debut album, Arular, as well as Diplo’s Favela On Blast mixtape. This Stereogum writeup sums up the whole Arular phenomenon better than I can.

Saw this silly image this week and I love it. It looks like your can buy a slightly altered version of it as a shirt, but I’m not 100% that’s the origin of it.
